Czakó Zsolt Pécs born, internationally renowned graphic designer and typographer. In addition to traditional graphic works, he also creates short films, headlines and complex television images, as shown in a special section of the M21 Gallery's GraphicPécs 2022 exhibition. He designed LokArt's image and we asked him about it.

How did you get involved with LokArt?

The invitation might have come from the fact that I myself cross genre boundaries and in my career I do not distinguish between autonomous and graphic design. I have also been involved in large-scale communication campaigns at home and abroad.

What were the most important aspects of the content and design of the festival's image?

The aim was to make the visual language of the spectacle a visual language that is spoken and read not only at home but also abroad. And the festival's artistic director, Valeria Fekete, has the express aim of creating a visual arts festival that enriches the city's image and is worth paying attention to both within and outside its borders.

Why is it good for Pécs to have such an event?

My previous answer goes some way to explaining this. A good series of exhibitions can make Pécs an attractive destination both at home and abroad. It can make people pay attention to the city. And once they are here, they can discover many other assets. The artistic life of Pécs is worthy of attention in its own right, but a thematic festival can also bring other focuses into focus.

What do you think LokArt can and does do to promote quality visual culture locally, nationally and further afield in the universe?

If I split the question in two, the curator can answer one layer and I can answer the other. If your graphic world and of course the way you communicate it is well done, it influences the identity of a city. It works inwards and can have an impact outwards. And because it does so subconsciously, it can also subtly shape public taste.

What other role do you play in the event, apart from the fact that you are the one who made it happen?

My role is not limited to graphic design, I also try to help with its implementation and communication.
